For the 122nd anniversary of FC Bayern Munich: new smartphone tour retracing the footsteps of Bayern's founding members

Just in time for the 122nd anniversary of FC Bayern Munich, Sightseeing Munich is releasing a new historical audio tour. The route takes fans and history enthusiasts to the original locations of the founding years – from the Gisela Restaurant to the first sports fields of FC Bayern Munich.

Munich – While fools roam the streets of downtown Munich on the evening of February 27, 1900 – Shrove Tuesday – it is not yet foreseeable that German football history is about to be written at the Gisela Restaurant. Eleven footballers withdraw from their parent club, MTV Munich, and found their own club, which is destined to make a name for itself as FC Bayern Munich.

In cooperation between Sightseeing Munich, Club Nr. 12 – the umbrella organization of all active Bayern fans – and the Kurt Landauer Foundation, the birth of Germany's biggest football club and many more exciting anecdotes from the early years of FC Bayern can now be experienced firsthand. In a new smartphone tour, available in the Sightseeing Munich app, users are guided from Marienplatz to Münchner Freiheit in just under 90 minutes. Along the way, users discover not only the original location of the former Gisela Restaurant, but also former apartments of the founding members, previous venues of FC Bayern, and much more.

"For many years, it has been a goal of Club Nr. 12 to tell the story of FC Bayern's early chapters to the fans in an easy way. These are chapters of the club's history that are probably unknown to most. Shortly before the start of the pandemic, we at Sightseeing Munich started our collaboration with Club Nr. 12 and the Kurt Landauer Foundation, and we are very happy to finally be able to present this tour," says Sebastian Jelsch, founder of Sightseeing Munich and author of the tour.

But Club Nr. 12 and the Kurt Landauer Foundation were not the only ones providing active support. Dirk Kämper, screenwriter of the TV movie "Landauer – Der Präsident" about the honorary president of FC Bayern, also provided valuable input for the script. All of this with the goal of telling the founding history of their favorite club to Bayern fans in a way that is as exciting, atmospheric, and firsthand as possible.

Sightseeing Munich is a tour operator that has been offering tours through Munich since October 2018. These tours are conducted via smartphone, meaning without a physical tour guide, using audio files. The Sightseeing Munich app is available for iOS and Android. The tour costs €8.99.
