The FC Bayern Munich was founded on February 27, 1900, at Restaurant Gisela, very close to Odeonsplatz. During a general meeting of the MTV München (Männerturnverein), several members of the football department criticized how the football players were being treated. As a result, they resigned from the club and founded their own club that very same evening.
Supported by Friedrich Wamsler Senior and other financial backers, FC Bayern quickly acquired its own football pitch and soon dominated Munich football. Yet even back then, the club was driven by ambition. With an enhanced focus on youth development and an eye on international clubs across Europe, they worked meticulously toward the goal of becoming the best football team in the world.
But there were more than enough challenges to overcome. At the time, football was considered a rough, immoral sport and was even temporarily banned in schools. The constant lack of funds and fierce competition from other clubs also had to be overcome. Ultimately, the arrest of the president and the First World War caused severe setbacks in the club's development.
