The English Garden is located on the western bank of the Isar River and connects neighborhoods like Schwabing, Maxvorstadt, and Lehel. Spanning roughly 375 hectares, it ranks among the largest urban parks in the world. Welcoming around 5 million visitors annually, it is a hotspot for tourists and a favorite destination for locals looking to enjoy warm summer days, visit a beer garden, or go for long winter walks. The southern section of the English Garden is particularly lively. On hot summer days, tens of thousands of people spend their time along the Eisbach or the Schwabinger Bach, two streams that flow through the entire park.
The southern part of the English Garden is also home to most of the park's landmarks. First and foremost is the Surfer Wave, where surfers showcase their skills on a continuous wave at any time of day or year. The Monopteros stands on a roughly 15-meter-high hill overlooking the park, offering a fantastic viewpoint across Munich's city center. On a clear day, you can spot landmarks like the Frauenkirche, the Theatinerkirche, and the New Town Hall. The P1 nightclub, famous far beyond the city limits as a celebrity hotspot, is also located right by the English Garden. Somewhat lesser-known is the Japanese Teahouse, built to honor the city partnership with Sapporo, Japan. It is idyllically situated by a pond and can be visited during traditional Japanese tea ceremonies.
